Future Student FAQs
1. Will you be taking a student for the 2025-2026 academic year?
No.
2. What do you look for in an applicant?
Prior research experience, including familiarity with: (1) IRB procedures, (2) data collection, (3) data processing and analysis, and
(4) various survey platforms (e.g., Qualtrics) and statistical packages (e.g., SPSS and SAS). Experience with dyadic data and related
analyses (e.g., APIM) are a plus!
Research/clinical interests.
I am interested in working with students who would like to conduct research related to stress and coping processes within close,
romantic relationships (same- and opposite-sex couples), and associated clinical interventions. Related, students should be
interested in disseminating their research findings in the form of poster presentations at National (e.g., APA) and International
(e.g., IARR) conferences, along with preparing and submitting manuscripts for peer-review.

3. “Once I graduate….”
I am interested in a primarily clinically oriented position, which does not involve a lot of research. Should I still apply to work with
you?
No.
I am interested in a primarily research oriented position, and do not like the idea of doing clinical work (i.e., seeing clients,
conducting psychological assessments, etc.). Should I still apply to work with you?
No.
I am looking for applicants who wish to be trained as a scientist-practitioner, per our program’s objectives: “Our program seeks to
train scientist-practitioners who manifest the highest standards of excellence and cultural competency in academic and/or service
delivery settings.”
